Vol. 14: History Being Made

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Have you ever broken something that meant a lot to you? Perhaps you were emotionally crushed when something you love got physically crushed? What if there was a way to mend that broken piece? Perhaps you could make it even better than before? Well, we had the opportunity to do just that last week at a Kintsugi workshop with Culture Care Creative and Kintsugi Academy! As purveyors of meaningful shared experiences, we here at GreatCo are grateful to have experienced the beauty of Kintsugi which we can now share with you!

Kintsugi is the Japanese art form of mending broken objects with a special form of lacquer and then embellishing the seams with a gold, bronze or silver finish. By taking something that was broken and creating something new and perhaps even more valuable, Kintsugi teaches us to find the beauty within the imperfection. Kintsugi Master, Kunio Nakamura, states that "instead of seeking to be perfect, but rather find beauty in brokenness, our life values will be transformed." In this way, the philosophy of Kintsugi extends beyond physical objects and can be applied to mending relationships, ourselves, and much more.
The process of Kintsugi itself is all part of the artform. From mending broken chips to painting with gold to even acknowledging the right time to mend a broken piece, Kintsugi is a personal journey, filled with patience, love, self-acceptance, and transformation. Every piece has its own story, meaning, and transformative value.
From items that already had a high sentimental value to newly acquired items, each of our pieces went through its own unique process. The beauty that unfolded with each piece was a great reminder of the beauty that comes from the process of transforming that which is broken.

Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our new President-Elect and Vice President-Elect! During these times of so much uncertainty and division, I think we can all agree that it is time to come together in love for one another, find unity through diversity, and work together in collaboration. Joe Biden's message on unity resonates as something that is particularly poignant:
Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris makes history as the first woman as well as first Black AND first South Asian, mixed heritage woman to ever take the office of Vice President of the United States. Cheers to Kamala! This is a powerful moment in history.
Who can say what the future will hold, but there is one thing that we can count on: through unity, we will prevail. Congratulations, America. Let's cheers to a brighter future!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mary Tang!! Our resident superhero, Mary comes to save the day on countless projects. She is our rock of stability and source of unwavering inspiration, positivity, and kindness. We love you Mary! And we are forever thankful for all that you do!
"Thank you for being our superhero, Mary!" ~ Nate
"I found this photo of Mary and my brother-in-law, Austin, from 5 years ago. As I look at this photo, I noticed Mary's eyes on the foundation of the structure which is what she has since become to GreatCo, the very rock upon which our company is built. I am so thankful to have her not only as a colleague but also as a sister I never had. Happy Birthday, Mary! May the force be with you." ~ Carl
"I just want to say, Thank YOU, Mary. For all your incredible support. For your grace in handling even the most challenging projects. For inspiring us all by being such a pleasure to be around. We all are more balanced with you around. Enjoy your birthday, Mary."
~ Denise
"Working with Mary for the Dungeons & Dragons project in Italy was such an incredible highlight in my life. I was so inspired by her leadership, her ability to stay calm and collected despite uncertainty, and her utmost professionalism at all times. It's been such a joy to adventure with you Mary! Happiest of birthdays!" ~ Ali

From everyone here at GreatCo, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and joyous holiday season!
Last week, our team held the annual Thanksgiving dinner with the caveat that we have all gotten to know oh so well: it was virtual! In the spirit of gratitude and community, we shared heartwarming moments and stories from throughout the year, bringing smiles and laughter in the midst of a year filled with so much uncertainty. These precious moments remind us that we have ever so much for which to be thankful. So, from all of us at GreatCo, we would like to THANK each and every one of YOU for being a part of this beautiful community. With you, we truly are In Great Company
